Best Golf Clubs of 2021
Ranked by our critic's grades, best first.
These are the golf clubs of 2021, ranked by our critic's grade, ten of the eleven reviews the year holds. No S was given. Seven clubs are graded A and three B, and TaylorMade holds four of the seven A grades. The drivers split by construction: forged rings at TaylorMade, radial weighting on Cobra RADSPEED, a sliding perimeter weight on Callaway Epic Max.
Odyssey White Hot OG #7 leads, graded A, the original urethane insert back in the double bend seven and, by our critic's verdict, the best feeling putter under $250. TaylorMade SIM2 Max, graded A, trades the sliding track for structure, and the extra stability is worth more than the adjustability it gave up. Mizuno T22, graded A, puts copper under the chrome at $159.95 a head. TaylorMade P790, graded A, gets the fix its hollow body needed, and Titleist T100, graded A, is the modern tour iron with no interest in flattering anyone.
Callaway Apex 21 is priced like custom irons at $1,480, Cobra RADSPEED punishes anyone who is not a fitted fast swinger, and Callaway Epic Max has a face that sounds louder than it plays. A B here means the club works for the player it was built for and nobody else. Between TaylorMade SIM2 Max and TaylorMade SIM2, both $529, a reader should weigh the first's larger face and heavier back weight against the second's compact, neutral, low spin shape.
