SpeedFoam Air is the fix the hollow body needed: the third P790 finally feels forged rather than filled.

The first two P790 generations were long and slightly deadening, because the foam packed behind the face damped the good vibrations along with the bad. SpeedFoam Air is 69 percent less dense, saves roughly three and a half grams per head, and that mass went two places: into the thinnest face the line has ever used and into tungsten low in the toe. The iron got longer and, more importantly, it stopped sounding like a filled cavity.

Strikes now come back with a click and a little feedback rather than a muffled thud. Lofts are strong, the 7 iron sits at thirty degrees, so the distance grade is about gearing as much as ball speed, and anyone comparing numbers against a traditional set is fooling themselves. What makes it the class of the field is the shape. The topline is thin, the offset modest and the sole narrow enough that better players can play it without embarrassment. A seven piece steel set landed in March 2021 at $1,399.99, which is a lot, and it still sold everywhere.
