Callaway Apex UW 25 Review
2025CallawayGolf Club
Callaway's utility wood sits between a hybrid and a fairway wood and does both jobs well enough to stay in the bag whatever the weather.

Earlier Apex UW models became tour staples by solving a problem most bags share: the gap between a 3 wood and the longest iron a golfer can actually hit. The 2025 model keeps the formula. The head sits between a large hybrid and a squashed fairway wood, under a gloss carbon crown whose weight savings drop the center of gravity, and a stepped sole lets it enter and leave the turf cleanly from the fairway, the rough or a tight lie.
Testing found it as versatile as anything in the category. It launches high and lands softly when a long approach has to hold a green, yet the same head hits a low, boring tee shot under the wind, a shot a 5 or 7 wood rarely manages. One tester's 21 degree model carried almost exactly halfway between his 3 wood and his 4 iron, with room to add five yards when he needed them or take ten off with a controlled fade.
The one complaint is the hosel. It is bonded rather than adjustable, so loft and lie are fixed at purchase, which matters more here than on most clubs because the whole point of the club is to fill one precise yardage. Choosing the right loft, and ideally getting fitted for it, is the price of entry.
At $349 it costs a little more than a premium hybrid, a fair price for a club that can stand in for either a fairway wood or a long iron. For golfers rebuilding the top of the bag, it belongs on the shortlist.
