The cameras of 2022, ranked by critic grade. All seven of the year's reviews are on the page, and the year is about autofocus catching up with sensors. Canon's Dual Pixel tracking simply works at 40fps, Sony rebuilt its 61MP body around a dedicated AI processor, and Fujifilm answered the charge that it could not do speed.
The Canon EOS R6 Mark II leads, graded A, on 40fps electronic bursts, uncropped oversampled 4K60 and the best autofocus at the price, with the closed RF mount the thing to think about. The Sony a7R V, graded A, pairs 61 megapixels with autofocus that can find a face across a room, but is not a video camera. The Canon EOS R7, graded A, is the 32 megapixel APS-C body wildlife shooters had asked for, at 1499 dollars. The Fujifilm X-H2S and Fujifilm X-T5, both graded A, split speed from resolution, the latter wired to autofocus a generation behind.
There is no S. Five of seven are graded A, and the verdicts split them by purpose, speed against resolution. The two B grades are the Canon EOS R10, a beginner's camera with a professional's autofocus and a lens problem it did not create, and the Leica M11, a 60 megapixel manual focus rangefinder with no video at 8995 dollars. A B here is a camera that does one thing well for one kind of buyer.
