Forty megapixels of APS-C detail and the best set of dials in the business, wired to autofocus a generation behind.

The X-T5 was Fujifilm apologising for the X-T4, which had chased video and grown a vari-angle screen. This one is smaller and lighter, has a three-way tilting screen a photographer actually wants, and puts shutter speed, sensitivity and exposure compensation on marked mechanical dials, so the state of the camera is readable with the power off.
Forty megapixels on an APS-C sensor is more resolution than the format has carried before and the files hold up, though you need good glass and you will meet diffraction sooner than you expect past f/8. Seven stops of stabilisation and the film simulations, which remain the only colour science anyone bothers to copy, mean a large share of owners never open a raw file.
Autofocus is the grade that will start arguments and it should not. Subject detection exists and works on static faces and birds, but continuous tracking of an unpredictable subject remains visibly behind what the other three were doing two years earlier, dropping onto backgrounds and re-acquiring late. For landscape, portrait, street and travel it is a joy. For a child running toward you at dusk, buy something else.
