The pocket vlogging compact that became a phenomenon, with a bright zoom and uncropped 4K but autofocus that hunts in video

The G7 X Mark III keeps the slim, pocketable body of its predecessor and aims it squarely at creators. Inside is a 20.1 megapixel 1-inch stacked sensor behind a 24-100mm equivalent f/1.8-2.8 lens, with a built in 3 stop neutral density filter, a touchscreen that flips up to face you, a microphone socket and 4K recording at 30p with no crop. It can also stream straight to YouTube and shoot vertical video, which helped make it a social media favorite.
The consensus praises the handling and the files. The bright lens is a real advantage in dim rooms, raw files hold detail and noise well for a sensor this size, colors are appealing straight out of the camera, and the controls feel premium for a pocket camera.
The weaknesses are just as consistent. Contrast detection autofocus hunts during video, the lens is soft at the wide end, battery life is short, there is no viewfinder or headphone jack, 4K clips stop at around ten minutes, and live streaming is fiddly to set up. It is a very good compact rather than a class leader, and years of social media demand have pushed street prices well above launch. Buy it for vlogging and travel if you want something far better than a phone that still slips into a jacket pocket.
