Canon EOS R7 Review
2022CanonCamera
The APS-C body wildlife shooters had been asking Canon for, at the price they had been asking for it.

For a decade Canon's crop sensor cameras were entry level by design, and the R7 ended that. It puts the R3's subject recognition, which finds a bird's eye against foliage from across a field, in a body that shoots fifteen frames a second with the mechanical shutter and thirty with the electronic one, and the 1.6 times crop turns a moderate telephoto into a long one. Image quality from the 32 megapixel sensor is very good at low sensitivity and merely fine at high, as crop sensors are.
Stabilisation is Canon's first in an APS-C body and it works. The handling is the company's usual excellence, with a proper grip and a control layout borrowed from the full frame line, though the unusual dial around the joystick divides opinion. The weakness is glass: the RF-S lens range is thin and Canon's decision to block third party autofocus lenses for years left owners adapting old EF glass. It is a superb body waiting for its system.
