2022CanonCamera
Forty frames a second and the best autofocus at the price, held back by a lens mount Canon will not open.

Canon's mid-range body is the least fussy camera in this bracket. Dual Pixel autofocus covers essentially the whole frame, subject detection identifies people, animals, birds, vehicles and aircraft without being told which to expect, and in practice you point it and it is right, which is a different experience from tuning modes and hoping. Forty frames a second on the electronic shutter is genuinely useful for peak action, provided the subject is not crossing the frame fast enough to skew, and twelve frames mechanical covers the rest.
Video is unusually complete for the money: 4K60 with no crop, oversampled from 6K, plus 6K raw over HDMI and no meaningful recording limit. Twenty-four megapixels is the trade, and it is a real one if you crop for a living rather than fill the frame. The larger problem is not the camera. Canon has kept the RF mount closed to full-frame third-party autofocus lenses, so the affordable Sigma and Tamron glass that makes a Sony body cheap to live with does not exist here, and the cost of the system runs higher than the body price suggests. Judge the mount, not just the box.
