These are the golf clubs of 2023, ranked by our critic's grade, the top ten of the twenty reviews the year holds. Every club on the page is graded A. No S was given. The pattern is carbon on the crown: Ping G430 Max, Ping G430 Hybrid and Ping G430 Max Fairway all carry one, and Callaway Paradym Fairway goes further and puts forged carbon in the sole.
Ping G430 Max leads, graded A, where a thinner forged face and the Carbonfly crown turn a stable head into a fast one, at $600. Callaway Paradym Fairway, graded A, is the longest fairway wood of its year by our critic's verdict. Odyssey Ai-ONE #7, graded A, holds ball speed on the strikes a player actually makes. Mizuno T24 and TaylorMade Milled Grind 4, both graded A, are the page's two wedges.
Ten A grades leave no letter to separate them, so the comparisons are by type and price. Between the hybrids, Titleist TSR2 Hybrid at $299 offers three lofts from 18 to 24 degrees, and Ping G430 Hybrid at $325 offers six lofts from 17 to 34 degrees. Between the irons, both $1,399, Titleist T200 is pitched at a mid handicap who wants speed without the chunky look, and TaylorMade P770 is shrunk to a shape a good player will actually put in the bag.
