Mizuno JPX 923 Forged Review
2023MizunoGolf Club
The thinnest face Mizuno has forged, at 2.2 millimetres, with micro slots in the sole to keep it fast low.

This is the JPX 921 Forged idea taken to its limit. The face is down to 2.2 millimetres, the thinnest Mizuno has forged, and to stop that thin face from losing speed on the strikes that actually happen, micro slots are cut into the sole cavity, wider in the long irons and narrowing through the set. The effect is a hot band that extends lower down the face than a forged iron normally manages, which matters because most amateurs catch their irons below centre.
Feel is a step firmer than the chromoly generation before it, still soft by any reasonable standard, with a slightly higher pitched note that some long time Mizuno players notice immediately. Shaping remains sensible, a modest sole and a topline that suits a mid handicapper without embarrassing a good one. It reached retail in February 2023 at $187.50 a club, which puts an eight piece set at fifteen hundred dollars. Expensive for the segment, and it is still the best combination of speed and feel available.
