The 2023 televisions, six in all, ranked by critic grade. It is the year QD-OLED went mainstream, with Samsung's second-generation panel arriving at half the flagship's price, and the year OLED stopped apologizing about brightness, with LG's first micro lens array panel on the G3. Beneath them, Mini LED sets from Hisense and TCL pushed brightness to numbers that embarrass sets costing twice the money.

Samsung S90C QD-OLED is the year's one S. It runs past 1,000 nits with 144Hz and four HDMI 2.1 ports and fell under $1,500 at 65 inches. Four A grades follow. LG C3 OLED is the television most people should have bought in 2023, with the best balance of picture, gaming support and price in its year. Hisense U8K brings a 144Hz quantum dot Mini LED panel and a built in subwoofer for $1,499. Sony Bravia XR A95L is the best-looking television of its year, sold at $3,499 with two usable HDMI 2.1 ports. LG G3 OLED lifts peak brightness well clear of the C series and ships with a flush wall mount instead of a stand.

TCL QM8 Mini LED (2023) takes the one B: the brightest set anyone had measured, past 2,000 nits for $1,699, and a picture that only holds together from the middle of the couch. Between the S90C and the C3, note that the S90C's 83-inch switches to a white-OLED panel.
