The U8K is the set that made American buyers ask why the expensive brands charge what they do. It is enormously bright, bright enough that high dynamic range highlights land with real force in a room with the blinds open, the Mini LED backlight carries enough dimming zones to keep blacks convincing, and the specification sheet reads like a flagship: 144Hz for a PC, variable refresh, Dolby Vision, and a 2.1.2 speaker array with a subwoofer built into the cabinet.
Reviewers ran it against sets at double the price and kept finding the Hisense competitive on the things a viewer notices first. What separates it from an OLED is discipline. The backlight blooms around bright objects on dark backgrounds, the picture washes out the moment you sit off to one side, and the processing makes decisions of its own that a careful viewer has to go into the menus and undo.
Shadow detail near black disappears in a way that annoys film watchers, and the smart platform is slower than the hardware deserves. None of it changes the verdict. For most rooms and most budgets in 2023 this was the most television anyone could buy for the money.
