Titleist Pro V1x Review
2023TitleistGolf Ball
Higher, firmer and more spin through the bag. Better than the Pro V1 for some players and worse for most of them.

Pro V1x is not an upgrade over the Pro V1 and Titleist has spent twenty years saying so. It is a different flight. The dual core, a firm inner sphere inside a softer outer one, plus a fourth layer, produces more spin through the middle of the bag and a noticeably higher apex. For a player with speed and a steep angle of attack that combination is exactly right, because long irons stop on a number instead of running through the back, and the extra height is free carry.
For everyone else it is a ball that climbs in wind and costs distance nobody can spare. The feel is the honest knock. It is firm, the click off a putter face is loud, and after a round with the Pro V1 the difference is not subtle. Greenside it also sits a touch behind its sibling on short pitches, where the firmer cover simply gives you less to work with. Fitted properly it is the best ball in the bag. Bought on the assumption that the x means better, it is a fifty-five-dollar mistake repeated weekly.
