Titleist AVX Review

2022TitleistGolf Ball

Titleist's quiet third option: lower flight, less spin and softer feel than either Pro V1, for the player who needs it.

AVX exists because a real population of golfers spins the ball too much and flies it too high, and neither Pro V1 solves that problem. The GRN41 core is faster and lower-compressing than the ZG Process core in its stablemates, the cast thermoset urethane cover is thicker and softer, and the package launches lower with less spin right through the bag. In a coastal breeze that flatter flight is a genuine advantage, and a player who has spent years watching wedges climb will find the numbers tighten immediately.

It is also the softest-feeling ball Titleist makes by a clear margin, which surprises people who expect the low-spin option to be the firm one. The catch sits on the other side of the trade. Less spin means less stopping power on a full wedge into a firm green, and around the green it lands behind the Pro V1 rather than beside it. It also costs the same fifty-five dollars, so there is no bargain here, only a different flight. Get fitted, confirm you actually have a spin problem, and then it is a very good answer.
