The best greenside spin in the tour category, at ten dollars a dozen less than the ball everybody defaults to.

Srixon has quietly built the highest-spinning urethane cover in the category and the eighth-generation Z-Star is where it lands. The Spin Skin coating is a thin flexible layer over the cast urethane that deforms into the grooves at impact, and the effect on half wedges is immediate and repeatable. Shots that would check once and creep forward with other balls simply stop. The FastLayer core avoids discrete mantle boundaries entirely, running from a soft centre to a firm edge as a continuous gradient, which is why the ball feels soft without going mushy against a driver.
Off the tee it sits a fraction behind the fastest balls here and Srixon does not pretend otherwise. What it gives back is control, and for a player who misses greens and needs a short game to save par, that is the better trade by some distance. Durability is the one real caution, since the soft cover scuffs faster than a Pro V1 and the Spin Skin wears with it. At forty-five dollars a dozen it is the smartest buy in the premium aisle, and it has been for several generations now.
