Callaway Chrome Tour X Review
2026CallawayGolf Ball
Callaway's firmest tour ball adds a stiffer mantle and spins hard everywhere, then charges more than anything else on the shelf.

Chrome Tour X is for the golfer who wants spin from every club in the bag and does not want a soft cover muffling the feedback. The change this generation is the mantle, retuned to behave like a far stiffer spring at impact, and it does what a stiff mantle always does: ball speed climbs and the strike gets louder. Paired with the reworked aero pattern and a thin urethane cover, the result launches lower off a driver than the standard Chrome Tour, holds its line when the wind gets up, and still spins enough on a full iron to stop on a firm green.
Around the green it is excellent, checking on pitches without the grabby first hop some urethane covers produce, and it takes a full wedge back up a slope without complaint. Feel is the honest compromise. This is a high compression ball, and anyone arriving from a Chrome Soft reads the putter strike as clicky rather than solid. Better players call that feedback and they are right, but it is a preference rather than an upgrade.
The value grade sits well under the rest for a reason that is pure arithmetic. Fifty eight dollars a dozen makes this the most expensive ball in the mainstream market, a few dollars clear of the tour balls it is chasing, and nothing in the performance closes that gap. Play it for the flight and the spin, not for the receipt.
