Zoom's reputation rests on one engineering decision: prioritise call stability over everything else, so meetings survive the weak connections that break competitors. The core product covers scheduled and instant meetings, breakout rooms, local and cloud recording, live transcription, virtual backgrounds and a webinar mode for large audiences, with join links that work from a browser when the desktop client is not installed. Since rebranding the suite as Zoom Workplace the company has folded in team chat, mail, calendar, whiteboard, docs, clips and an AI Companion that summarises meetings and drafts follow-ups, while Zoom Phone and Contact Center extend it into telephony.
The free tier allows 100 participants but cuts group meetings at 40 minutes; paid Workplace plans bill per user per month, raise the meeting ceiling to 30 hours and scale participant limits to 300 and beyond. Eric Yuan founded the company in 2011. This entry carries a provisional placeholder grade: it has not been through a full graded review yet, so every letter here sits at a neutral C until it is.
