The accounting software your accountant already knows, at a price that keeps climbing faster than your revenue

QuickBooks Online is the cloud version of Intuit's accounting package and, by revenue, now the heart of the QuickBooks business. It connects to bank and card feeds, sends invoices, tracks bills and, on the higher tiers, inventory, and it produces the reports a lender or tax preparer expects. Its real advantage is the ecosystem: most US bookkeepers and accountants already work in it, hundreds of apps plug into it, and Intuit's AI agents now handle chores such as categorizing transactions and sending invoice reminders.
Reviewers still rank it at or near the top for small businesses that sell both products and services. The complaints are just as consistent. Plans run from Simple Start at 38 dollars a month to Advanced at 340, with Essentials at 85 and Plus at 140 after a 2026 increase on the upper three tiers. A free tier covers the barest basics for one user, but the jump to paid is steep. Setup rewards some accounting knowledge, and user reviews are hard on support.
Price is where the consensus turns, and it pulls the overall grade down a tier from the value. If your accountant lives in QuickBooks, the integration pays for itself. If you invoice a handful of clients a month, cheaper tools such as Xero, Wave or FreshBooks cover the job.
