Still the reference for serious PDF work, and still priced like the only option in town

Acrobat is where the PDF began in 1993, and it is still the tool every other PDF editor measures itself against. Reader stays free for viewing, filling and signing. The paid plans add real editing of text and images, OCR that turns scans into searchable documents, form building, redaction, file comparison and electronic signatures, across Windows, macOS, the web and mobile. Setup is an install and a sign in, and files behave exactly as the people you send them to expect.
In 2025 Adobe added Acrobat Studio, which bundles Acrobat Pro with Adobe Express Premium and PDF Spaces, collections of files and links you can question with an AI assistant that cites the passage behind each answer. Reviewers like it for teams that live in documents, but see it as an extra for heavy readers rather than a required upgrade from Pro.
The consensus has one sore point, and it is money. On annual plans Standard costs 14.99 dollars a month, Pro 19.99 and Studio 24.99, and month to month runs 10 dollars more on each. Cheaper editors now handle everyday edits well, so price pulls the overall grade a tier below what the product itself earns. For legal, finance and anyone who cannot afford a PDF surprise, Acrobat Pro is still the safe choice.
