Twilio exposes telecom as HTTP endpoints. A programmable messaging API sends and receives SMS, MMS and RCS; a voice API places and answers calls, with TwiML describing call flow as markup and Studio offering a drag-built alternative; Verify handles one-time passcodes across channels; and SendGrid, acquired in 2019, covers transactional and marketing email. Around them sit phone number provisioning in most countries, short codes, toll-free and ten-digit long codes with United States registration handled in the console, plus Elastic SIP Trunking for carrier interconnect.
Segment adds a customer data platform, and Flex packages the primitives into a programmable contact centre. Everything is pay as you go with volume discounts: outbound United States SMS runs about $0.0083 per segment before carrier fees, and a local number leases for $1.15 per month. Founded in 2008 and public since 2016. This entry carries a provisional placeholder grade: it has not been through a full graded review yet, so every letter here sits at a neutral C until it is.
