Stripe sells payments as infrastructure. The core is a REST API with idempotency keys, versioned endpoints and official libraries for most server languages, wrapped in documentation widely treated as the reference standard for developer products. Around it sits a product line: Checkout and Payment Elements for hosted and embedded flows, Billing for subscriptions, invoicing and usage-based metering, Connect for marketplaces that pay out to third parties, Radar for machine-learning fraud scoring, Issuing for card programs, Terminal for in-person payments, and Tax and Atlas for compliance and incorporation.
It supports well over a hundred currencies and a long list of local payment methods, with webhooks and a test mode that make an integration testable end to end. Standard United States online card pricing is 2.9% plus 30 cents per successful charge, with product add-ons metered separately. Patrick and John Collison founded the company in 2010. This entry carries a provisional placeholder grade: it has not been through a full graded review yet, so every letter here sits at a neutral C until it is.
