Slack organises work conversation into channels rather than inboxes: persistent rooms, public or private, with threaded replies, emoji reactions, huddles for quick audio and video, and canvases attached to the channel they belong to. Its durable advantage is integration breadth. Several thousand apps publish into Slack, and webhooks, slash commands, Block Kit and Workflow Builder let teams route deploy alerts, support tickets and approvals into the same place people already talk.
Slack Connect extends a channel to an outside organisation without falling back to email threads. Search indexes every message and file, which is how the archive tends to become a company's working memory. Billing runs per active user under a fair-billing policy, with a free tier that limits history and integrations, Pro at $7.25 per user per month on annual billing and Business+ at $15.
Clients ship for the web, macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. Salesforce acquired the company in 2021. This entry carries a provisional placeholder grade: it has not been through a full graded review yet, so every letter here sits at a neutral C until it is.
