Replit started in 2016 as an online editor for people who did not want to install anything, and that is still the reason to open it. There is no toolchain, no local runtime, no deploy step to configure. The 2024 arrival of Replit Agent turned it into something else again: describe an application in a sentence and the agent writes it, runs it, fixes its own errors and ships it to a URL with a database attached. Agent 3 in September 2025 made that loop genuinely autonomous, and the 2026 successor runs several agents in parallel on one project.
The growth is not in question. Annualised revenue went from a few million to a reported five hundred million inside two years, and a four hundred million dollar round in March 2026 valued the company at nine billion, three times what it was worth six months earlier.
The friction is the meter. Core is twenty dollars a month, eighteen on annual billing, and includes twenty dollars of credits towards the stronger models. A complicated agent session eats those quickly, and the gap between a working app and a refactor loop is the gap between one bill and four. Read the credit page before the first serious project, not after it.
