Loom Review
A screen recording with a face in the corner, which turned out to be a whole category.

Loom's insight was that a lot of meetings exist only to show someone a screen, and a recorded screen with a face in the corner does the job without the meeting. The product delivers that with almost no friction: press record, talk, stop, and a link exists. The viewer sees the video, can comment on it and can speed it up, and the recorder can trim it and see who watched. For onboarding, bug reports, design feedback and the review that nobody wants to schedule, it is the right tool and it made the pattern normal.
The trouble is that the pattern is now built into everything else. Screen recording is native in every operating system, Slack and Google both added the feature, and the AI additions Loom shipped, transcripts and summaries and generated titles, are the same ones every competitor added. Atlassian bought it and the roadmap has quietened. It remains the most polished version of an idea that has become a commodity.
