ChatGPT Atlas is OpenAI's attempt to make the browser itself an AI product. Launched on October 21 2025, it is a Chromium based browser with ChatGPT built into a persistent sidebar, a memory that can recall what you looked at earlier, and an agent mode that will navigate sites and complete multi step tasks on your behalf. It arrived on macOS first, with Windows, iOS and Android following.
It is free to use once you sign in with a ChatGPT account, and the heavier agent features draw on your existing Plus or Pro subscription. That makes it an easy thing to try, and for people who already run their day through ChatGPT the sidebar removes a lot of copying between tabs.
The reservations are the ones you would expect from a first version. Reception was mixed, with reviewers flagging privacy questions around the browsing memory and security researchers warning that agent mode can be steered by malicious instructions hidden in web pages. It is also going up against Chrome, which is a very high bar for defaults, extensions and polish. As a glimpse of where browsing is heading it is worth installing. As your only browser it is not ready to be that.
