Titleist TS2 Review

2018TitleistGolf Club

A genuine step forward for Titleist that still arrived as the least interesting good driver of its year.

The Titleist Speed Project was a real engineering push, and the TS2 is a real improvement on the 917D2 it replaced, with a crown thinned by around twenty per cent, a lower and more forward centre of gravity and a cleaner footprint through the turn. It is stable, it launches high and it looks exactly as a Titleist driver should at address. The problem is that everything interesting happens in the hosel.

The SureFit sleeve gives sixteen loft and lie combinations and that is the entire fitting story on this head, because the sole weight is fixed and there is no track, no bias, nothing to change if your miss changes. The sound is a muted, slightly hollow clack that plenty of players never warm to, and ball speed low on the face falls away faster than the launch material suggested. At $499, in a year when rivals were shipping sliding weights and hotter faces at the same money, competent was not enough.
