A proprietary matrix polymer crown frees the mass, and the head finally launches without a perfect strike.

Fairway woods live or die on how low the mass sits, because a shallow face club has to get the ball up off grass with no tee to help. Titleist took the crown out of steel and made it from a thermoform polymer matrix, which is lighter and, because it is formed in one piece, needs no reinforcing flange around a bonded seam. The grams that frees went low and back. The result is a head that launches a 15 degree wood off a tight lie without demanding you catch it flush, and holds its ball speed on the low face strike that used to fall out of the sky.
The face itself is a variable thickness design that behaves consistently across a wide band. Sound is a firm low crack rather than the hollow ring some carbon crowns produce. The SureFit hosel gives sixteen loft and lie settings, which on a fairway wood mostly gets used to tune the gap to the driver. At $399 it costs more than the competition and outperforms most of it.
