The tour standard for a decade, and the generation that made a forged players iron genuinely stable.

AP2 is the iron that quietly took over professional golf, and the 712 is the version players still name when asked which one felt right. The body is forged 1025 carbon steel and the cavity carries high density tungsten in the heel and the toe, which pushes stability out to the edges of a head small enough to read as a blade at address. The payoff is a shot that holds its line on the strike an inch toward the toe instead of falling twenty feet short and right.
Construction runs progressively, from a deeper cavity in the long irons to a nearly muscle back nine iron, so the four iron gets help where it needs it and the scoring clubs give it back as control. Turf interaction is the underrated part. The sole is narrow with just enough camber that it does not dig out of a tight lie. Lofts are traditional, so it will never out distance a game improvement set and was not built to. You buy it for the feel at impact, soft without being dead, and for shots that finish where you aimed them.
