Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2 Review

A better shaft and a cleaner sole on a shape that was already right, at a price that is getting silly.

The changes are real but small. The shaft is a new lighter stepless design that shifts a little mass out of the middle of the club and into the head, the sole shaping is cleaner through the three zones so the putter sits and moves more predictably, and the face milling is a fraction deeper, which softens an already soft impact. Put the 2020 and 2023 versions side by side on a practice green and most players will describe the difference as feel rather than performance, because that is what it is.
Everything that made the Newport 2 the reference blade is untouched: the shape at address, the heel toe weighting, the single sight line, the milled 303 stainless head. It is still an unforgiving putter that rewards a repeatable stroke and quietly punishes a loose one. What has changed most is the invoice. At $449 it costs half again what an equally well made mallet from Odyssey or Ping asks, and the extra money buys craft rather than strokes.
