Scotty Cameron California Del Mar Review
2011Scotty CameronGolf Club
Cameron took the shine off and left the shape, and the result is the best feeling putter of the year.

The California line is Cameron in a quiet mood. The head is milled from carbon steel and then left matte rather than polished, so there is no glare off the top and no jewellery anywhere, just a single sightline and a shape that sits square without being fussed into place. Del Mar is the rounded one, fuller through the back than a Newport and heel shafted with a plumbing neck, so it hangs with a little toe droop and suits a stroke that works on an arc rather than a straight line.
Carbon steel is the whole feel argument. Nothing sits between the face and the ball except a deep mill pattern cut into the metal, and what comes back is a soft low thud that tells you exactly how hard you hit it, which is the only feedback that has ever helped anyone lag a fifty footer. The finish will wear at the sole and rust at the edges if you put it away wet, and that was plainly the intention. You are paying for the milling and the balance.
