2022PingGolf Club
The shape that started everything, milled from 303 stainless and priced like a piece of jewellery.

Ping invented this shape in 1966 and has been selling versions of it ever since, but the PLD Milled is the first retail run made the way the tour department makes them. The head is milled in its entirety from 303 stainless, which takes hours per putter, and the face carries a deep aggressive milling pattern that gets the ball rolling quickly off a slow stroke. Feel is the reason to buy it: a firm, precise, entirely damped impact with no ring and no insert softness, the sort of contact that tells you exactly how hard you hit it.
The shape is a plumber's neck Anser 2 at around 350 grams, which suits a stroke with a moderate arc and offers nothing to a player who needs help holding the face square. Sole weights allow some tuning of head weight to length. The problem is $485, which buys a superb object and a putter that will not hole more putts than a $250 mallet.
