Ping G440 LST Review

2025PingGolf Club

Ping finally built a low spin driver a normal golfer can hit, and it is the best of the three G440 heads.

Low spin drivers have always charged a tax. Give up forgiveness, get spin control. Ping has spent three generations shrinking that tax and the G440 LST is where it more or less disappears. The head is 440cc against the Max at 460, small enough to look workable at address without looking like a fairway wood, and the carbon crown wrap takes mass off the top and drops it low into the sole, so the stability numbers land far closer to a full size head than the silhouette suggests.

On a launch monitor the profile is exactly what the name promises. Spin sits a few hundred revolutions under the Max at matched launch, peak height comes down, and a player who delivers real speed with too much dynamic loft gets the lost yardage back immediately. The face is hotter low in the center than Ping's previous LST heads, which matters more than it sounds, because low strikes are where fast players actually give away ball speed. Adjustment is a hosel and a single rear weight, fewer options than a TaylorMade or a Titleist, and Ping's standing argument has been that getting the shaft right matters more than moving eight grams around. They are mostly correct.

Feel is the divisive part. Ping drivers have never sounded expensive and this one does not break the run: a flat, slightly hollow crack that some players read as muted and others hear as dead. It is a preference rather than a defect, and it is the only place the club trails the field.

Six hundred and forty nine dollars is fifty under the Titleist and level with the Callaway, which for a head this well engineered is fair rather than generous. The warning is the usual one for the category. LST is for golfers who spin the ball too much at genuine speed. Under about one hundred miles an hour of clubhead speed the Max is the better club, and any honest fitting bay will say so before you pay.
