ST-Z 220 uses carbon in two places, the crown and a large panel at the back of the sole, with a titanium structure running between them. The purpose is not simply weight saving but symmetry: by removing mass from the extremities front and back while keeping a stiff spine, Mizuno holds the centre of gravity close to the neutral axis, so the head produces a genuinely straight flight rather than the mild draw most stability-focused drivers default to.

The face is a forged beta titanium plate with a variable thickness map, and spin runs low for a head of this size. At address the profile is compact for 460cc, slightly pear-shaped, with the clean minimal graphics the brand is known for. Sound is firm and low, in keeping with Mizuno's iron reputation. Fitting is a four-setting hosel and stock lofts of 9.5 and 10.5 degrees. Grades here are a provisional placeholder held flat at C until this head goes through a proper fitting and a full launch monitor block.
