Mizuno MP-59 Review
2011MizunoGolf Club
A players' cavity forged in Hiroshima that gives away almost nothing to a blade at impact.

Grain Flow Forging is not marketing shorthand at Mizuno. A billet of 1025E mild carbon steel is heated and struck so the grain runs unbroken from neck to toe, and the dense, soft impact that comes out of it is why these irons keep turning up in the bags of players who are paid to game something else. The MP-59 is the forgiving end of that family rather than the pure one. A dual muscle geometry lays a bar of mass across the back and a second pad low behind the sweet spot, lifting the moment of inertia enough that a strike half a groove low still reaches the front edge of the green.
What it refuses to do is look like help. The top line is thin, the offset is close to nothing and the sole is narrow, so it sits down small at address and asks you to find the middle. Lofts are honest rather than jacked, with a seven iron at thirty four degrees. If you can strike it, nothing that year told your hands more about where on the face you caught it.
