Cobra's problem has never been engineering, it has been persuading people to look at the bag tag, and the King Forged Tec is the clearest example. The body goes through five forging steps, the face is a forged cup wrapped around the leading edge, the hollow cavity is filled with a flexible foam that keeps the sound tight and lets the face rebound, and tungsten sits low in the head to lift flight. That specification reads like an iron costing two hundred dollars more, and the performance matches: fast, high launching, forgiving for a players distance shape, with a soft press at impact that the foam does not deaden.
Shaping is conservative, a thin topline and modest offset that a good player can set behind the ball without wincing. The sole is narrow enough for firm turf. Cobra's fitting network is thinner than its rivals, which is a genuine drawback when the iron rewards a proper shaft match. At $1,199 for seven it is the best value players distance set of its year.
