Best Golf Clubs of 2018
Ranked by our critic's grades, best first.
The golf clubs of 2018, ranked by critic grade. All five entries are drivers, and the year's arguments were about the face and its sound. The TaylorMade M3 introduced Twist Face, the Cobra King F8 put the first CNC milled driver face into production, the Titleist TS2 thinned the crown and lowered the centre of gravity, and the Callaway Rogue reshaped its Jailbreak bars to keep the ball speed while fixing the sound.
The Callaway Rogue leads as the year's one A. Two titanium bars stiffen the body so the face keeps the energy, under a triaxial carbon crown and an X-face variable thickness pattern, and our critic finds it neutral, forgiving and quieter than the driver before it, the complete rack driver of 2018 at $499.
The other four are graded C. The Titleist TS2 is a genuine step forward that fits only through the hosel, sounds hollow and asks $499 with nothing to move. The Cobra King F8 has the milled face, dual roll geometry and front and back weights at $399. The TaylorMade M3 brings the Y-Track and two eleven-gram weights at $499, and the TaylorMade M4 offers the same Twist Face and Hammerhead slot in a bigger, simpler head for seventy dollars less. Between the two TaylorMade heads, the question is whether the track will be used. Between the Cobra King F8 and the Titleist TS2, the gap is a hundred dollars.
