Sony a7R VI Review
2026SonyCamera
The highest resolution sensor anyone sells, in a body that now very nearly shoots like a sports camera.

The a7R line has always traded speed for detail, and the sixth version mostly stops having to. Stacking the sensor cuts readout time by a large multiple, which buys blackout free shooting at thirty frames a second, far less skew on a fast pan, and full width 4K at 120 without the crop that used to spoil it. The files are the best in the class for dynamic range and color, and the autofocus holds an eye in light where the photographer cannot see one.
What the reviews keep returning to is the gap between what it can do and what it is for. Readout is still slower than a Nikon Z8 or a Canon R5 Mark II, so it is not the camera for pitch side work, the 4K footage looks soft beside those rivals, the grip is less comfortable than Sony's own sports bodies and the menus remain a maze. Battery life is the best in the category by a distance. At four and a half thousand dollars it is a specialist's camera that happens to do almost everything.
