The SL3-S is the fast counterpart to Leica's high resolution SL3. It swaps that camera's 60 megapixel sensor for a 24 megapixel back illuminated one tuned for speed and low light, adds phase detection to the autofocus, and shoots up to 30fps with continuous focus. It records 6K in open gate 3 by 2, offers a 15 stop dynamic range and multi shot modes up to 96 megapixels, and hides all of it in an IP54 sealed metal body.

This is the most versatile SL that Leica has made. Build quality is superb, the viewfinder and clean interface are a pleasure, the video features are genuinely strong, and 24 megapixels is a smart choice for handling and low light. It works with the growing L mount alliance catalog from Leica, Sigma and Panasonic.

Value is the obvious problem. At 5295 dollars body only you pay a large premium over a Panasonic S1 II that shares the mount and much of the capability, and the autofocus, though improved, still is not class leading. This is a camera for photographers who want the Leica build and experience in a fast, modern body and consider the badge and the feel worth the money. On specifications alone it is easy to beat.
