Fujifilm X100VI Review
2024FujifilmCamera
A fixed 35mm compact that became a cultural object, and still shoots well enough to survive the attention.

Fujifilm did something nobody expected and fitted in-body stabilisation into a camera the size of a paperback without changing its shape, which buys about six stops and turns a fixed thirty-five millimetre equivalent into a usable low-light tool. The forty megapixel sensor is the same one in the X-T5, so the files are the same files, and the hybrid viewfinder still has no competitor: flick a lever and the optical finder becomes an electronic one, or overlays a small electronic panel inside the optical view.
The lens is the older design, sharp from f/2.8 and a touch soft and prone to glow wide open at close distance, which a lot of owners consider a feature rather than a fault. What made this camera a phenomenon was not the specification. It was the film simulations, the leaf shutter that syncs flash at any speed, and the fact that it looks like a camera rather than a computer, which is why it sold out for a year and traded above list. Judge it as a tool and it is a very good one with an obvious limitation, which is that the lens does not come off.
