Fujifilm X-T4 Review
2020FujifilmCamera
The camera that made a crop sensor body a serious video tool without surrendering a single photographer's dial.

The X-T4 is where Fujifilm stopped making photographers' cameras that also shot video and started making one camera that does both without apologizing in either direction. Stabilization in the body arrives for the first time in the X-T line and is worth several stops in real use, the battery is finally large enough to last a full day, and a redesigned shutter is quieter and rated far longer.
The dials are still marked and mechanical, so shutter speed, sensitivity and exposure compensation are readable with the camera switched off, and the film simulations still produce JPEGs that most owners never bother to improve on. On the video side there is 4K at sixty frames, ten bit output, a flat log profile and a dedicated stills and movie switch that keeps two entirely separate sets of settings, which is the detail that makes the hybrid claim real rather than marketing.
Two things hold it back. The vari-angle screen swings out to the side, which video shooters wanted and stills shooters resented enough that Fujifilm reversed the decision on the next model. And continuous focus on an unpredictable subject still lags what Sony and Canon were doing at the time, dropping onto backgrounds and reacquiring late. Everything else about it is a pleasure.
