2024DJICamera
The first action camera that beats GoPro at GoPro's own game, and does it in the dark.

GoPro spent a decade as the only serious choice and the Action 5 Pro is the model that ended that. Its sensor is physically larger than the one in the Hero 13, which shows up exactly where action cameras have always been worst: at dusk, indoors and under water, the DJI footage is cleaner with less smearing. Stabilisation is at parity with GoPro's, which is to say excellent. The magnetic quick release mount is faster and more secure than the folding fingers GoPro still uses, both screens are OLED and bright enough for sun, and the battery runs to four hours of recording where GoPro owners carry spares.
It also records to internal storage as a fallback. The gaps are in resolution and ecosystem: there is no 5.3K mode, the maximum is 4K at 120, and the accessory range and software are a generation behind GoPro's. For most buyers the trade favours DJI, and the price undercuts the Hero as well.
