The records
Newest first, each with the line its review opens on.
2023UtopiaFive years, a stadium budget and a Yeezus impression. Enormous to hear and impossible to hold onto.
2018AstroworldThe one time everything lines up: the budget, the guests, the theme park, and a host who fits the room.
2017Huncho Jack, Jack HunchoHuncho Jack (Travis Scott and Quavo)Two headliners book a studio and nobody brings a song. Pleasant, expensive, and gone by the end of the week.
2016Birds in the Trap Sing McKnightThe darker, tighter sequel to Rodeo: one giant single, a run of very good ones, and a mood that finally has somewhere to go.
2015RodeoReviewers filed it as style with nothing underneath. Eleven years on, half of rap's sound is built from it, and the sound was always the point.
2014Days Before RodeoThe tape where the world he keeps rebuilding gets drawn for the first time, cheap and complete.
