Best TVs of 2022

Ranked by our critic's grades, best first.

The 2022 list is short: three televisions, three A grades, ranked in the order our critic placed them. It is the year quantum dot OLED arrived. Samsung's debut panel shipped colour volume nobody had seen from an emissive panel, Sony put the same kind of panel behind its own processing, and LG's C2 carried the brighter evo panel into the mid range.

Samsung S95B QD-OLED leads, graded A. It hit roughly 1,000 nits with full saturation at brightness, a combination white-OLED could not touch, at $2,999. Lifted blacks under room light and no Dolby Vision were the price. LG C2 OLED, graded A, is the set that made a great OLED normal: the evo panel, four full bandwidth inputs, and a 42 inch size that put a proper OLED on a desk for the first time, at $2,499. Sony Bravia XR A95K, graded A, is the first quantum dot OLED Sony shipped, pairing the panel with the company's processing and a reversible stand that clips front or back, at $3,999, well above the set it shares a panel with.

Three matching grades leave the choice to room and size. Both quantum dot sets come only in 55 and 65 inches, and the $1,000 between the S95B and the A95K buys Sony's processing and the stand. The C2 is the one with six sizes and the lowest list price of the three.
