Vultures 2 Review
2024Album
The offcuts from the first one, shipped late and half mixed, with nothing that justifies a second volume.

The first volume at least had a hit and a shape. This one has neither. Slide has a decent chord bed and a vocal that never becomes a hook. Field Trip gathers several guests around a serviceable loop and gives none of them a reason to be there. Everywhere else the songs simply stop, mixed at levels that shift from track to track, with vocals sitting on top of the beats rather than inside them.
Ty Dolla Sign is still doing the heavy lifting and there is less for him to lift. The writing has passed beyond provocation into something duller, a man repeating positions he has already been punished for, in bars that do not scan. Released months after its announced date and revised again afterwards, it plays like a folder that got uploaded. Even people who defend the late catalogue struggle to name a song from it, which is the most honest verdict available.
