Unfinished Business Review

2004Album

Leftovers from a bad idea, released as the tour collapsed, and the worst thing either man put his name to.

The first collaboration was thin. This one is offcuts from it, padded out and rushed to market while the joint tour was disintegrating amid lawsuits and an incident with pepper spray. The beats are cheap, the mixing is flat, and the vocals audibly come from different sessions in different years. Big Chips is the only track anyone can name and it is a mediocre club record. Elsewhere there is not one hook worth repeating, and both men sound like they are fulfilling an obligation, because they were.

Nothing about it works as music even before you reach the fact that half of it belongs to a man now serving decades in prison for crimes against children, which has permanently retired the record. This is the floor of a catalogue that also contains several genuinely great albums, and it is a very long way down. Every axis fails, and none of the failures are interesting.
