He drops the sermon, picks up the pen, and reminds everyone he can actually rap.

This is the record that answers the standing complaint. He handed a lot of the production to other people, which immediately fixes the flatness, and he decided the point of the album was to be good at rapping rather than to be right about something. The results are the most enjoyable he has been in years. Amari and 95 South open it with actual snap. m y . l i f e is a proper song with a 21 Savage verse that stops the record dead in the best way.
Interlude is the flex track and it earns the space. Punchin' the Clock is short and vicious. At thirty nine minutes it is also his most disciplined sequencing, no interludes about the state of the culture and no closing address to the youth. It will not top anyone's list because it has no larger idea, which is precisely why it plays better than the albums that do.
