The sixth one arrives with a famous name, a long wait and nothing that needed saying.

The number on the cover is doing all the promotional work. Seventeen years after the album that made the series a landmark, the sixth instalment turns up sounding like a compilation of sessions rather than a record with a shape, jumping between soul samples, modern trap and a couple of ill advised attempts at chasing whatever is on radio. The rapping is fine. It is always fine.

He still finds pockets nobody else would think to look in and still delivers a punchline with the timing of a man who has done this longer than most of his guests have been alive. What is missing is any reason for the songs to exist beyond the schedule, and the guest list keeps arriving to fill the gaps where an idea should be. There are two or three moments that would make a good short project. Stretched out at this length it is another entry rather than an event.
