Tha Carter V Review
2018Album
Four years of legal war produced an album with two devastating songs and an hour of padding.

The delay turned it into an event and the record cannot carry the load. Twenty three tracks and an hour and a half means the good material is spread thin across guests and half finished ideas, and much of the middle is the late model version of him, competent melodic rapping over beats that could be anyone's. What lifts it are two moments of real writing.
Let It All Work Out closes the album with a plain account of shooting himself as a child and the years of silence after, and it is the most naked he has ever been on record. Mona Lisa is the other, a full narrative with Kendrick Lamar where both men are genuinely acting, and it is the best song he has released since 2008. Uproar is a fun single. Everything between those points is filler with a famous name on it. The two songs are worth the price.
