Tha Blue Carpet Treatment Review
2006Album
The last time he sounded like he was making a rap album rather than a lifestyle.

This is the grown up version of the thing he does, and it is underrated because it arrived after everyone had filed him away as a talk show guest. The production leans dark for once, Dre and Battlecat and Rick Rock building beats with low end and grit instead of gloss, and he responds by actually writing. Vato is a proper story, tense and specific, and it is one of the last genuinely hard songs he has recorded.
That's That is a Neptunes track that avoids the obvious, and Candy sets up a long Southern groove that he rides beautifully. Boss' Life and Which One of You are solid. The flaw is familiar. Twenty one tracks means at least six that nobody has ever needed, and the sequencing sags badly in the last third. Cut to fourteen this would be a genuine late career highlight rather than a good album with too much attached.
