There is no charitable reading that survives the running time. He wanted to make something raw in the tradition of the nineties records he loved, so he recorded twenty six tracks of distorted guitar, tuneless howling and drum machine patterns that sit at the wrong tempo against everything else, then interrupted it repeatedly with skits that are not funny. Confused is a real melody drowned in noise.

The Nothing is close to a song. Everything else is unstructured, badly mixed and enormously long, and by the fortieth minute the effect is less challenging than tedious. The defence offered at the time was that it was deliberately unpolished, and unpolished is not the problem, because plenty of great records are. The problem is that almost nothing here was finished. Even people who love him do not own this. It is worth knowing about and there is no reason to play it twice.
